Double Dynamic Lighting

World’s leading lighting technology providers, such as Tridonic, iGuzzini, Zumtobel and Fagerhult teamed up with the renowned Aalborg University in Copenhagen to develop a unique light study that provides fascinating information on the interplay of dynamic daylight and dynamic electrical lighting in a spatial context and the way it can support individual needs and different work situations.1

This Double Dynamic lighting project provided lighting experts and architects to a whole new approach on improving work environments by supporting individual needs, with the combination of dynamic daylight and artificial light. Using new sensor and lighting technology, it  developed a way to better meet human needs, by producing lighting scenes based on the natural course of the daylight as well as current sky conditions.2

This new design concept is used in indoor environments, such as offices, schools and hospitals. To put it in simple words, it basically adjusts the electrical lighting in real time so that it complements daylight – leading to more dynamic and productive environment.3

The lead of the study and Head of Lighting Design in the Department of Architecture, Design & Media Technology, Prof. Ellen Hansen, had this to say about the project:

“The aim of the study is to create a holistic approach to lighting through the use of an innovative mixture of methods that can then function as a seal of approval in the lighting industry. The combination of biological, aesthetic and functional aspects should define the foundation for the design process. At 2 the end of the study, the new research findings will be used in architecture through the lighting designers’ specifications so as to help people in the everyday life.”
